HZ-60 High-Energy Centrifugal Barrel Finishing Machine

The Mid-Size Centrifugal Barrel Deburring Machine Built for Long Parts and High-Efficiency Production

The HZ-60 is the first full-production model in the HZ-Series and the entry point into Mass Finishing’s high-efficiency centrifugal barrel finisher lineup. Where the compact HZ-12 and HZ-40 are designed for smaller parts and lab-scale volumes, the HZ-60 is built for manufacturers running serial production of automotive components, transportation hardware, and longer medical instruments that compact machines simply cannot accommodate.

What defines the HZ-60 is its barrel geometry: 25.75″ long and just under 6″ in diameter. These long, narrow barrels handle parts up to 25.25″ in length—drive shafts, steering linkages, longer surgical instruments, rifle barrels, and structural brackets that would never fit in a compact machine. The narrow profile also means the media-to-part sliding action is concentrated along the length of the part, which is particularly effective for deburring and edge radiusing on elongated components.

With 2 cubic feet of total capacity across four barrels and speeds reaching 225 RPM, the HZ-60 delivers more than double the throughput of the compact models. An air-driven cover lift eliminates manual barrel-lid handling, and variable frequency control lets operators dial in finishing intensity from gentle polishing to aggressive material removal.

What the HZ-60 Does That Compact Machines Can’t

The HZ-60 exists to solve a specific problem: you have parts that are too long for compact centrifugal barrel finishers, and you need production-scale throughput that benchtop machines can’t deliver. It’s the smallest high-efficiency model in the HZ-Series, which means it’s the most cost-effective way to step into full-production centrifugal barrel finishing without oversizing for your current volumes.

With variable frequency control reaching 225 RPM, the HZ-60 handles a wide processing range. Lower speeds produce controlled polishing and burnishing for cosmetic surfaces.

Higher speeds drive aggressive deburring and edge radiusing on hardened steel, cast aluminum, and machined alloys. The operator selects the intensity to match the part—gentle enough for electroplated automotive trim, forceful enough to remove heavy machine burrs from forged transportation brackets.

The air-driven cover lift is standard on the HZ-60 and all larger models. It eliminates the manual lifting required on compact machines, reducing operator fatigue during high-volume shift work. The machine can be fully customized with a PLC touchscreen, internal parts separator, drain pan, infrared safety curtains, and an automatic door opener.

Why Automotive and Medical Manufacturers Choose the HZ-60

25.75″ barrels for long parts

The HZ-60’s defining advantage is barrel length. At nearly 26 inches, these barrels process parts that no compact machine can accept—drive shafts, steering rods, longer surgical instruments, rifle barrels, and structural brackets. If your parts are long and narrow, this is the machine built for them.

Up to 12 barrel chambers

With 11 divider slots per barrel, you can create up to 12 isolated chambers inside each of the 4 barrels—48 separate compartments per cycle. This level of part separation is critical for automotive manufacturers finishing mixed batches and medical companies processing components of different alloys or geometries.

Air-driven cover lift

Standard on the HZ-60, the pneumatic cover lift removes barrel lids with a toggle switch—no manual lifting of heavy, media-loaded covers. Over an 8-hour shift running multiple batches, this reduces operator fatigue and eliminates a common ergonomic injury point in production finishing operations.

225 RPM variable speed

The HZ-60 reaches higher speeds than the compact models, translating to greater centrifugal force and faster material removal rates. Variable frequency control means you can run a light polish at 80 RPM or an aggressive deburring cycle at 225 RPM—on the same machine, with the same barrels.

2 cubic feet of production capacity

More than double the HZ-40’s capacity, the HZ-60 processes heavier batches per cycle—60 lbs. of ceramic media or 50 lbs. of plastic media total. For automotive and transportation manufacturers running hundreds or thousands of the same part, this capacity reduces the number of cycles needed per shift.

Fully customizable configuration

The HZ-60 supports a full range of add-ons: PLC touchscreen with recipe storage, internal vibratory parts separator, drain pan, infrared safety curtains, automatic door opener, and centrifuge wastewater system. Configure it as a standalone cell or integrate it into an existing production line.

HZ-60 Barrels

The HZ-60 features four hexagonal barrels measuring 25.75″ L x 5.8″ D—the longest barrels available on any mid-size centrifugal barrel finisher in the HZ-Series. Removable lids are secured with cam locks, and the air-driven cover lift (controlled by a toggle switch on the control panel) handles lid removal without manual effort.

Part Separation With Up to 12 Chambers

Each HZ-60 barrel has 11 divider slots, allowing you to create up to 12 individual chambers per barrel—or 48 separate compartments across all four barrels in a single cycle. This is the HZ-60’s most important feature for manufacturers who need to:

  • Prevent part-on-part contact: Automotive transmission gears, camshaft lobes, and valve components with tight-tolerance surfaces need isolation during processing to avoid dings and dimensional changes.
  • Separate different alloys or materials: Medical manufacturers often process stainless steel instruments alongside titanium implant components—dividers prevent galvanic interaction and cross-contamination.
  • Run mixed batches efficiently: Contract manufacturers processing multiple part numbers in the same cycle use dividers to keep orders separated while still maximizing machine utilization.

Barrel dividers are made from NYLOIL® cast nylon with built-in oil lubrication, providing durability and chemical resistance that outlasts standard plastic alternatives.

A second set of barrels is available to enable continuous operation—load the next batch while the current one runs.

Best For

Dental, jewelry, small medical, additive, precision parts under 11″

Automotive, transportation, longer medical instruments, mid-volume production

Choose the HZ-60 if your parts exceed 11″ in length, you need more than 40 liters of batch capacity, you require extensive part separation (48 chambers), or your production volume has outgrown what a compact machine can sustain in single-shift operation.

Stay with a compact model if your parts are under 11″, your volumes are moderate, or your facility runs on single-phase power (HZ-12). The compact models are more cost-effective for smaller-scale operations.
